Major News! Plus Size Model Tess Holliday Graces The Cover of People Magazine

Plus size model Tess Holliday continues to break barriers in the modeling industry and take it by storm. And it seems as if the sky’s the limit for this size-22 model with her gracing the cover of People Magazine this week.

Tess also sat down with the magazine for an exclusive interview where she spoke candidly about her childhood, including her bullying experiences. She told People:

“I was getting shoved into lockers, I was being called names. I was getting death threats at my house. It was awful.”

But Tess did not let that stop her from going after her dreams. It has not been easy but she never gave up, going to her first casting call at the age of 15:

“Nobody was interested. I got one call back and they said, ‘Look, you have a pretty face, but you’re too short and you’re too big.'”

“I just knew that I could do it. I wasn’t the best, and I still am not the best. The key to it is just doing it.”

Tess is like the modern-day Velvet d’Amour, the stunner who made a statement walking in runway shows for Jean-Paul Gaultier and John Galliano back in 2006, during a time where it was a rarity to see a model her size gracing a major high-end fashion runway. Velvet has made no secret of her opinion on size diversity within the modeling industry and in the media. She once said in a previous interview in 2008:

“The general reason one gets as to why there is not more representation of curvier folks within modern media is that inclusion would be equivalent to acceptance, and acceptance would then equal condoning, which would mean they support alleged ill health. The odd dichotomy is that whilst people like myself are banned due to the purported notion we will somehow ‘promote’ being unhealthy, we are besieged with media saturated with imagery of Britney Spears, Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Kate Moss and Lindsay Lohan. How these women represent good health is somewhat beyond me.”

Tess is continuing Velvet‘s legacy by just putting herself out there and showing that a model her size can be just as successful as her thinner counterparts. We’re hoping this will push for more size diversity in the modeling industry.

With Tess getting signed by a major modeling agency just a mere five months ago and having her career skyrocket in that short time, it seems this model is well on her way to the top and in the process, will inspire so many women to love themselves as they are.
