EVERETT — Everett earned a berth in the state tournament by defeating Ferndale in the second round of the District 1 3A Tournament on Tuesday night.
Junior starting pitcher Sydney Taggart got the win following four innings of work on the mound for Everett. The Seagulls ran into some trouble in the fifth inning after Ferndale rallied for three runs but Erin Gordon escaped a bases loaded, nobody-out jam and held on to a one-run lead that eventually won the ballgame.
Senior utility player Bailey Forman went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer for the Seagulls and Megan Gordon went 3-for-3 with a triple.
Ferndale’s Dana Ebe and Abigail Bauthues doubled in the loss.
The Seagulls (21-1) will face Meadowdale (20-2) on Thursday in the district title game before the two teams head to state.
