Spring football typically includes stars who fade and others who continue to shine brightly once the season arrives. Here are a few potential breakout candidates for 2015, including several who leveraged spring ball as a springboard toward the fall.

1. Cardale Jones, Ohio State QB

All right, we’ve settled that he isn’t going to Akron. (May Fools!) But there’s a possibility for the Buckeyes QB battle that hasn’t been discussed all that much: What if Jones takes the job and runs with it?

He has had breakout games, but what if this becomes his breakout season en route to another playoff run and a top-10 selection in next year’s draft?

It isn’t that far-flung. He has the size. He has the weapons around him, with more -- such as sophomore Noah Brown -- developing.

This is a player who was not fazed in ultra-spotlight games.
