Richland Parish – A Rayville man lost his life Saturday after the vehicle he was driving ran off the road, struck a culvert and overturned.

Shortly after 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Louisiana Hwy 609 approximately 1 mile south of Interstate 20.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed a 2004 Buick Century was traveling north on LA 609. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the road, struck a concrete culvert and overturned. The driver, 77-year-old Collie Hutto of Rayville, was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle.

Hutto was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

In 2015, Troop F has investigated 15 fatal crashes resulting in 15 deaths.
