This has been a really exciting year for Meghan Trainor. The 21-year-old is currently on her first headlining tour in support of her debut album, Title. On top of that, she’s not only rubbing elbows with famous friends like Sam Smith and Becky G, but is also joining some of them in the studio.

We sat down with the star for our May music issue, and this is exactly what she had to say.

Teen Vogue: What do you want your fans to know about you?

Meghan Trainor: I’m not just some girl who is sassy and dances and is all about the bass. I can also do a heartbreaking song and sing my ass off too.

Teen Vogue: What was it like working with Harry Styles on your duet?

MT: Performing a love song in front of Harry is terrifying, and on top of that I was a little nervous because he was one of the first celebrities I met. It’s a cute little number called ’Someday Maybe.’ It needs a good home. Harry was super talented at writing, and his lyrics were incredible—probably my favorite lyrics in a song. I remember I wrote it at midnight the night before and sent it to my mom. I was so worried he was going to hate it.

Teen Vogue: Are you used to the fame yet?

MT: I still get blown away when people recognize me. To this day, whenever I’m at events I’m always like ’Why of all people are we here right now?’ It’s awesome.
