History happened on Friday afternoon at Howe Field in Eugene. For the Oregon Ducks Softball team all the pieces appear to be coming together at the right time for the Ducks. Head Coach Mike White was smart to schedule a non-conference series with a top ten team. Louisana-Lafayette and Oregon are not far apart in the Offensive Standings and Oregon flexed some extra muscle in Game 1 of the series. Janie Takeda was a big reason why.

Takeda broke several records in the Ducks Record Books and now is the leader in hits and steals. The Ducks scored five in the second inning and the potent Ragin’ Cajuns Offense was put to the test and quieted to the tune of a no-hitter from Oregon Ace Cheridan Hawkins. The Ducks won the game 8-0 in run ruled fashion. Hawkins had eleven strikeouts in the victory, the seventh no-hitter of her career at the U of O.

Nikki Udria capped off the evening with a walk-off homerun sealing the victory. Oregon and Louisiana-Lafayette are back at it in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at Noon.

"We’re treating this like a Super Regional, and that’s what we need to do. We cannot let down. That team can jump right back up tomorrow and beat us twice. We know that. That’s part of the game; tomorrow’s a new day and we’ve got to bring it again tomorrow. We expect them to come out hard, and we have to as well.Oregon Head Coach Mike White on Saturday’s Double Header"
