ULM baseball preps for midweek games

University News Services

Coming off of a 2-1 series victory over Arkansas State, the ULM baseball team will travel to Southern Miss and host Louisiana Tech during the midweek. Wednesday’s game vs. the Bulldogs will be the squad’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness game.

ULM begins its final five-game week of the season on Tuesday night as it travels to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for a 6 p.m. contest at Southern Miss. Following the trip to Southern Miss, the Warhawks will face their second straight C-USA foe as Louisiana Tech visits Warhawk Field on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.. After the back-to-back midweek games, ULM will hit the road for a three-game series at Georgia Southern, beginning Friday night at 6 p.m. (ET).

ULM and Southern Miss are meeting for the only time this season as the game in Monroe earlier this season (Feb. 24) was canceled due to weather.

Southern Miss leads the all-time series that dates back to 1960, 46-18. ULM’s last win in Hattiesburg came during the 2009 season (W, 9-2, March 24). The two teams normally play a home-and-home, the only recent exceptions (2013 at Southern Miss, Rained Out; 2015 at Warhawk Field, Inclement Weather).

ULM has won six of its last seven games (and nine of last 11) when the official game time is two hours and 30 minutes or less

ULM posted a 3-1 record last week and the Warhawks now sit at 20-19 overall and 7-11 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Warhawks picked up a 5-1 win over Northwestern State on April 15, before taking a 2-1 series win over Arkansas State (W, 3-2; L, 3-11; W, 3-2). ULM’s road contest at Arkansas-Pine Bluff (April 14) was halted due to rain after just 10 pitches. ULM had two runners on base and a 1-0 count to Justin Stawychny before the heaviest of rains fell — the rain never let up during the 40 minute wait and the game was called off.
