Wolverhampton Wanderers' hopes of snatching a play-off spot took a monumental blow after they could only manage a draw at home to fellow top-six contenders Ipswich.

The result leaves Kenny Jackett's side in seventh - three points adrift of Derby and Ipswich in fifth and sixth with just two matches to play.

Even in form striker Benik Afobe's 31st strike of the season couldn't inspire Wolves to victory after Richard Stearman's first-half own goal had given the visitors the lead.

Former Ipswich man Stearman found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and headed into his own net from a Tractor Boys corner with 21 minutes on the clock.

Wolves midfielder David Edwards came close to equalising 15 minutes later but was unfortunate to see his fine volley ricochet off the post.

Nouha Dicko then found himself unmarked at the back post after the break but managed to horribly miscue his header and let Ipswich off the hook.

Jackett's men did equalise just moments later through man of the moment Benik Afobe.

The young English striker buried a volley at the far post to bag his 31st goal of the season and, more importantly, put his side on level terms.

There was to be no winner for either side though and Mick McCarthy will surely leave his old stomping ground the happier manager.
