Authorities said Friday that threats posted on Instagram made by middle school students in San Dimas appeared to be directed toward one girl, who has gained much support from her schoolmates and community in the wake of the incident.

The threats were sent to the girl — a student at Lone Hill Middle School in San Dimas.

They included messages such as: “Enjoy your fame on the news. Your life is very short sweetheart. This is your last week. Time’s up!!”

The messages sparked concern among students and parents at the San Dimas school, where sheriff’s officials said Friday they were beefing up their presence as a precaution.

They also said they’ve got a presence around the girl’s home.

“Our primary concern is the safety of the students, and we will continue to focus our efforts on preventing violence and any further threats,” according to a Los Angeles County sheriff’s news release Friday.

Authorities said the investigation was still “very open.”

Instagram has been cooperative, but findings have been unclear.

Investigators said the process of gathering electronic evidence takes several rounds of search warrants as leads break in the case.

“The investigation seems to have a good likelihood of a definitive answer in the end,” the release said.
