Jake Slaughter hit a two-run home run, Aaron George struck out six batters and the Ouachita Christian Eagles defeated Union Parish 14-4 in five innings Friday at Micah Harper Field.

Union pulled within 9-4 in the top of the third inning on RBI singles by Chase Spatafora, Landry Newsome and Micah Beck.

The wheels fell off in the bottom half of the second inning for the Union defense. OCS took a 14-4 lead, scoring five runs on pass balls and a couple throwing errors by the Farmers.

"We try to preach to our kids to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations," OCS coach John Parker said. "We had a good offensive approach, and came back (after giving up 4 runs) and put some pressure on (Union)."

It was a pivotal inning that stifled a big Union comeback.

"Pitchers and catchers have to do their job," Union coach Joe Spatafora said. "With a team like OCS, you can't give them anything. You must make them earn them. You have to play fundamentally sound baseball."

OCS was sound from the start at the plate. Garryn Chowns hit a two-run triple in the first inning. Josh Pennybaker and Grant Shepherd followed with RBIs to put the Eagles ahead for good.

Union picked up a single run in the top half of the second before the big OCS half of the second.

OCS starting pitcher Aaron George pitched four innings in the win. George struck out six batters and walked two while giving up four runs, two of them earned runs.

OCS returns to the field Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a much anticipated showdown with former district rival and defending state champion Cedar Creek. OCS is currently No. 1 in the LBCA Class 1A polls, Cedar Creek is No. 3 this week.
