NYM Starting Pitcher #34

Kodai Senga did not throw his scheduled bullpen session Monday because of triceps tightness.

Senga isn’t being shut down; the Mets are still hoping to have him on the mound later this week. All of these little setbacks he’s having as he tries to return from a shoulder injury are very concerning, and it doesn’t really seem like he’s someone to count on at this point. Still, it’s not hopeless just yet.
Xander Bogaerts

SD Shortstop #2

The Padres said that the initial imaging on Xander Bogaerts’ shoulder came back negative.

Hopefully, this will prove to be a day-to-day situation. We might know more later today.
Gerrit Cole

NYY Starting Pitcher #45

Gerrit Cole is scheduled to face live hitters on Tuesday.

Cole played catch on Monday and felt good, so he will now progress to facing live hitters for the first time in his rehab process. There is still a long way to go for Cole, who will face live hitters a couple of times before beginning a proper rehab assignment. The current timeline, provided he doesn’t experience any setbacks, is for Cole to return sometime in mid to late June. What that means for Luis Gil, Clarke Schmidt and the other Yankees starters who are pitching well is anybody’s guess at this point.

HOU Starting Pitcher #75

Astros signed LHP Eric Lauer to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Lauer did not pitch well in eight appearances for the Pirates organization this year, posting a 5.52 ERA in eight appearances in Triple-A (six starts), striking out 37 and walking 11 in 29 1/3 innings. However, he has been a solid MLB pitcher with a 4.30 career ERA, so the Astros will look to recapture some of that magic and provide potential rotation help with Hunter Brown and Spencer Arrighetti both struggling.
Brandon Lowe

TB Second Baseman #8

Rays activated 2B Brandon Lowe (oblique) from the IL.

It’s hard to feel too confident about Lowe considering he experienced multiple setbacks during his rehab assignment and had to see a specialist. However, the Rays feel that he’s healthy enough to return; however, he was hitting just .185/.267/.333 with a homer and four RBI in eight games before being sidelined. Lowe has produced power in the past, but we also know that he will sit against left-handed pitching and the batting average will not be much of a help in fantasy leagues, which makes him tough to roster outside of deeper daily moves leagues.
Zach Eflin

TB Starting Pitcher #24

Rays placed Zach Eflin (lower back inflammation) on the 15-day IL.

Eflin had a shaky start on Saturday, allowing four runs over six innings against the Blue Jays. Perhaps his back was an issue then. The Rays made his IL designation retroactive to Sunday, but he will still miss at least two starts as he recovers. The 30-year-old has a 4.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 44/4 K/BB ratio across 59 innings but it’s unclear who will take his spot in the rotation, but perhaps the Rays will opt to bring Ryan Pepiot back from his leg injury without a rehab assignment.
Johnathan Rodriguez

CLE Right Fielder #67

Guardians recalled OF Johnathan Rodriguez from Triple-A Columbus.

The 24-year-old Rodriguez was off to a strong start in Triple-A, slashing .276/.389/.449 in 43 games with seven home runs, 30 runs, 28 RBI, and four steals. While he still sports a 25 percent strikeout rate, it’s an improvement on the 33 percent rate he posted in Triple-A last year, and Rodriguez is also posting a 16 percent walk rate. He hit 29 home runs across two levels of the minors last year, so he could bring some solid power to the middle of the Guardians’ order. Ramon Laureano was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
Xander Bogaerts

SD Shortstop #2

Xander Bogaerts left Monday’s game against the Braves with a shoulder injury.

Bogaerts dove for a ball and came up grabbing his shoulder. While there is no immediate information on the extent of the injury, Bogaerts was removed from the game and was in clear pain. It was a play reminiscent of the one that injured Trevor Story earlier in the year. We’ll wait for more information but losing Bogaerts would be a huge issue for a Padres offense that would likely need to play Donovan Solano and Tyler Wade more often.
Adolis Garcia

TEX Right Fielder #53

According to Rangers Today’s Jeff Wilson, Adolis Garcia (forearm) could be available to play on Tuesday.

In his Monday newsletter, Wilson mentioned that “all looked good” with Garcia’s MRI and that “Garcia could be available Tuesday in the opener against the Phillies.” That’s a huge sigh of relief for both the Rangers and fantasy managers. It’s not for certain that Garcia will actually be in the lineup on Tuesday, but it sounds like the slugging outfielder will avoid the IL and not miss many more games, if he misses any at all.
Yu Darvish

SD Starting Pitcher #11

Yu Darvish delivered a dominant performance in Sunday night’s victory over the Braves, piling up nine strikeouts over seven innings of scoreless baseball.

The 37-year-old right-hander gave up just two hits on the evening while allowing one base on balls. Only once did the Braves put a man in scoring position against him, and that was on Marcell Ozuna’s two-out double in the opening inning. He finished his night by retiring the final 13 hitters that he faced in order. Darvish got 14 swings and misses on 99 pitches on the night, posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. He now boasts a 2.08 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and a 46/13 K/BB ratio over 47 2/3 innings through his first nine starts on the season. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling when he does battle against the Yankees on Friday.
