For the first time, a non-SEC team is ranked in the top spot and the Oregon Ducks are the top team in the nation, according to the weekly USA Softball Poll. The top spot all season has belonged to Florida before this week. The Gators have beaten the Ducks twice this season giving the Ducks two of their four losses. Since their last loss to Florida, Oregon has won thirteen of their last fourteen games, including winning the first two Pac-12 series of the year.

The Ducks defeated Oregon State to start Pac-12 play several weeks ago, beat Utah on the road and most recently took two of three games from Washington at Howe Field this past weekend. The Ducks success has again this season been pitching. Starting Pitcher Cheridan Hawkins has been stellar this season for the Ducks.

In the first game of the series with Washington she pitched a Perfect Game with just fifty-six pitches. She also has credit for a two-hitter and a no-hitter against Utah last weekend. Her ERA on the season is a microscopic 0.43 after she allowed runs against the Huskies this weekend. Hitting has also been a key for the Ducks this season.

Geri Ann Glasco is hitting at an .800 clip the last four games and powered the Ducks to three wins in that span capping off the weekend with Washington hitting three home runs in a game on Sunday. She was key in the Ducks ten home run outburst and run-ruled win in the finale to win the series 2-1 over Washington.

Florida, previously number one dropped to number three this week. LSU is ranked second. The top ranked Oregon Ducks now head south to UCLA to take on the eighth ranked Bruins for three games this weekend.
