Oregon Struggles With Men In Scoring Position, Lose Series vs Arizona

Oregon is in a slump, their biggest so far in 2015. The Ducks have won seven of seventeen games in March, not a good start to the month for a team that started ranked in the Top ten. Oregon has lost their second Pac-12 road series of the year against the Arizona Wilcats on the road. The team lost two of three to start Pac-12 Conference play earlier this month.

The Oregon Ducks best pitcher, Cole Irvin was not at his best on Sunday in the finale with Arizona. The Ducks Starter was touched up for seven runs in the second inning as George Horton found his club in too deep a hole to dig out from and a series loss that Oregon can’t really afford.

Oregon stranded thirteen runners on base on Sunday and were 2 for 12 in that spot. Arizona scored close to fifty percent of the time going 7 for 15 on the day. The Bullpen for the Ducks came through to shut down Arizona for the last two plus innings getting seven outs and not giving up a hit or run. It was the one positive of the weekend for Oregon.

The opportunity to reverse the trend starts this week with weekday games against Portland on Tuesday night at PK Park(6pm PT) and Wednesday in Hillsboro against Seattle (6pm PT).
