Oregon Falls Against Arizona After Eight Run Wildcats Fifth
The Oregon Ducks entered the game on Saturday winning three of their last four games and George Horton’s team was beginning to show some fight after a rough patch and losing six of eight games. Arizona got the best of Oregon in the first game of the series as the Ducks committed five errors and left eleven runners on base. Saturday would start differently, but the result would be the same.

Phil Craig-St. Louis went two for for on the night scoring two runs and three RBI’s. He hit his first career home run to give Oregon a 3-1 lead in the fourth. The lead would hold until the fifth inning when Arizona exploded with seven hits, causing three Oregon errors and eight Wildcats to cross the plate. Prior to the big inning, Oregon Starter David Peterson was having a decent game, at one point retiring eleven of thirteen batters. In the end Peterson’s line showed eight runs given up, seven earned.
Oregon has now lost the first three series to open Pac-12 play, something that has not happened to the team since 2011. A promising start and a ranking in the Top 10 will likely end this week after losing two games to Arizona. The Ducks will look to salvage the final game of the series today with Cole Irvin on the mound.
Irvin picked up his first win of the season last weekend against Arizona. Following the game Oregon will return home to face Portland in Eugene on Tuesday night.
