A year in space: Soyuz docks at the International Space Station

A Russian Soyuz spacecraft has docked at the International Space Station (ISS) carrying three astronauts, two of whom are due to spend a record 12 months there.

Doctors will observe the effects of weightlessness on the pair beyond the usual six-month deployment.

Nasa wants to collect the data for a possible future manned trip to Mars.
