Oregon Ducks Turn To Harber To Start Opener At Arizona

Arizona comes into the three game series with an advantage on the Oregon Ducks this weekend. The Wildcats are hitting at a .332 clip as a team, Oregon enters the game, coming off a recent slump at .250. The Ducks however have won three straight games against Arizona State and two games on the road against UC Irvine. The eighteenth ranked Ducks will begin the weekend with the same rotation as they had last weekend with Conner Harber getting the start on Friday, David Peterson starting Saturday and Ace Cole Irvin on Sunday.

Harber has shown a flair for the dramatic this season earning Pac-12 Player of the Week honors in the non-conference part of the season and throwing eighteen innings in a row of not allowing an opposing run to score. He also threw six no-hit innings in relief of Starter Cole Irvin earlier this season against New Mexico State. Irvin’s recovery is paying off as he picked up his first win of the year this past Sunday against Arizona State.

Oregon has won seven straight in the series with Arizona, but that could change this weekend. For the ‘Cats, Zach Gibbons  and Kevin Newman have hitting streaks of twelve and thirteen games respectively this season. The Ducks counter with Matt Eureste and Mitchell Tolman who lead the team on Offense. Both are hitting at close to a .300 clip.

The series steak for Oregon is three years running with the Ducks taking care of Arizona in Eugene the last two seasons and taking two of three from the Wildcats in Arizona. Conner Harber needs to get off to good start and have some run support in the opener. If Oregon can get some runs on the board against solid Arizona pitching early the win may be on their side.

Baseball is starting to heat up and Oregon needs the games this weekend to get back into the top half of the Pac-12 Standings. Friday and Saturday first pitch is set for 7pm Pacific Time, Sunday’s finale is slated for 11am Pacific Time. All three games will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
