Dublett is a series of double art-book publications. Part 1 is an about-book with texts discussing the spesific artist´s work, while part 2 is an artist-book, art-piece, done by the artist.
As Dublett is a book series where the artist is involved in creating the books, the design needs to be able to utilize the book format in a new way where the book itself can be adapted to fit the artist´s practice better.
The main challenge in the design process was to land a binding method where the publication feels like a single unit, and still let´s the readers seperate the two parts if they want. The solution is a slightly smaller format for part 1, and a double spine. By doing so, the spine fits both parts, but if part 1 is removed, the spine adapts, and the cover fits the format of part 2.
The editorial design and colours creates a clear familiarity from publication to publication, while the artists themselves are free to design part 2 of the book as they see fit for their spesific work of art.
