Oregon Ducks Get Back on Track Against San Diego

Oregon was able to put runs on the board early on Saturday facing the host team in the San Diego Classic. Koral Costa was a big reason early in the game hitting a two run home run giving the Oregon Ducks a 6-0 lead they would never relinquish. Coming off their second loss of the season the day before against top ranked Florida it was important for Mike White’s team to get back to doing what they do best, hitting.

Costa went three for four in the game, including the home run and scored two runs. Starting Pitcher Cheridan Hawkins found a way out of a rare two game losing streak in earning the win. She allowed a run on four hits throwing four innings against the Aztecs. Allyssa Gillespie was moved in the game to the leadoff spot for the first time this season and paid solid dividends going two for three with a run scored and a run batted in helping Oregon to a 7-3 win.

Oregon faces Grand Canyon on Sunday at 2pm Pacific Time to finish out the San Diego Classic. The Ducks will then have a week to think about the rematch with Florida next weekend at the Judy Garman Classic.

Oregon has started the season 18-2 with back to back losses to Baylor and Florida and will look to even the non-conference matchup with the Gators on Friday March 6th at 3pm Pacific Time.
