Wossman came out and scored the first basket of both the first and second halves on Thursday against No. 1 Warren Easton. The only problem was the Lady Eagles did a lot of scoring in between on its way to a 72-44 LHSAA Class 4A second-round playoff victory.

Warren Easton (30-1) ended the first quarter on a 17-2 run and never trailed after the Lady Wildcats (19-9) came out firing and not appearing intimidated at all by the No. 1 seed.

"We were just getting the long bus ride behind us," Warren Easton coach Darrius Mimms said. "We had some tough practices this week and had a meeting of the minds (Wednesday). We were a little rusty after not playing for a week."

The game was originally scheduled for Monday but a winter storm in Monroe caused the game to be delayed three times.

Wossman seemed a bit rusty at times themselves, and turnover issues continually doomed the home team.

Wossman turned the ball over 25 times on Thursday which kept the team from getting into any kind of consistent rhythm despite another strong night from freshman sensation Curtessia Dean who finished with a team-high 15 points. Amber Eldridge added seven points for Wossman.

"We put too much pressure on ourselves," Wossman coach Matthew Reed said. "Don't take anything away from (Warren Easton) but we were throwing it away. We knew they were a good shooting team, but you can't throw the ball right back to them. We didn't make good passes."

Warren Easton was led by Sabrina Banks with 18 points. Que Tobias added 16 points, Nick Harron scored 12 points, and Keshell Figuerod poured in 10 points for the Lady Eagles who will host No. 8 Ellender in the quarterfinals.

"Our defense was big," Mimms said. "We talk all the time about exposing teams with weak ball handling. As soon as we saw that Wossman had that we attacked there. But give Wossman credit. They were not in the second-round for nothing."
