Charles to visit the Florida Gators on Saturday

The Florida Gators haven’t hosted a junior day yet and won’t host one for a few more weeks but the coaching staff will play host to at least one visitor on Saturday.

Athlete Korey Charles (5-11, 164, Tallahassee, FL North Florida Christian) told GatorCountry.com that he plans to be in Gainesville this weekend.

“I’m going down to Florida for a visit on Saturday,” Charles said. “I’m just going down there for a visit with my parents because I’ve been talking to the coaching a lot and they invited me down there.”

Over the past month Florida has really turned the heat up on Charles and that included extending a scholarship offer to the athlete.

“Florida offered me, I want to say three weeks ago, it was earlier this month,” Charles said. “It was coach McElwain that offered me the scholarship. He was telling me that I could be a great asset to the program and I could be a big athlete on offense. He wants me to come down there for some visits and meet everyone and see how Florida is.”

McElwain and the Florida staff haven’t told Charles exactly where he will play but they did tell him that see him playing with the ball in his hands.

“He just tells me that he sees me as an offensive athlete,” Charles said. “For him to tell me that means a lot because coach McElwain is a great coach. I was very impressed with him when I met him.”

This will be the first trip to Gainesville for Charles and he’s hoping to get a feel for the Gainesville campus as well as the new coaching staff.

“I’m just hoping that it will be a great trip this weekend and that I like it,” Charles said. “I want to sit down with coach McElwain and all of the other offensive coaches. I want to go around and see if everything is to my liking or not.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Charles says he has a lot of interest in Florida and that he will make a decision whenever he feels comfortable so this could be a big step in the right direction for Florida with Charles. Charles definitely likes McElwain and recruiting coordinator Drew Hughes already, so it will big for him to meet them as well as Doug Nussmeier and the rest of the staff.
