REVAMP plans for a village play area have received another major boost in the form of a promised grant from Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Wincham residents Clara Dockney and Lillian Barton want to see improvements at the play area in Chapel Street, and are seeking to raise money to fund the work.

They are hoping to see new equipment for younger children installed by this spring, and staged a carol singing fundraiser at Witton Albion.

Their campaign has been backed by Norman Wright, Don Hammond and Malcolm Byram, Marbury ward councillors at Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Between them they have given £3,000 to Wincham Parish Council for improvements at the play area through CWAC’s member budget scheme, which allows each councillor £10,000 a year to be distributed to worthy local projects.

Funding for the play area project has now topped the £5,000 mark after the parish council was told it was due to receive a New Homes Bonus grant of £2,054 from Cheshire West and Chester Council.

A condition of the grant is that the money should be spent on a capital project within the village.

Councillors agreed to Cllr Dominic Turner’s suggestion that the grant should be used towards the play area improvements, and Mrs Dockney presented the council with the money raised at the carol singing event.
