Sources close to the information have informed us that there could be a glove controversy brewing in Colorado ahead of the highly-anticipated rubber match between former champions Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, despite the fact that on Friday evening, both camps already approved the gloves to be used for tonight's bout, it appears the Colorado State Boxing Commission may grant a last-minute change for one of the teams without approval.
FightHype.com has been unable to confirm if it's Team Rios or Team Alvarado requesting the change in gloves, but we're told that it looks like the commission may not have any issue with granting the approval. The move would come as a big surprise considering that representatives from both teams must usually be present to inspect and approve the gloves that are chosen during the selection process.
[UPDATE: FightHype.com can now confirm that it is Team Alvarado that is requesting the change in gloves.]
[UPDATE: It appears that the glove controversy has been averted as the Colorado State Boxing Commission has advised us that Team Alvarado will be using the original gloves that were approved on Friday evening.]
