Rooney Mara & ‘Orphan Black’ Star Tatiana Maslany Are Testing For Gareth Edwards’ ‘Star Wars’ Film
Casting for Gareth Edwards’ stand alone “Star Wars” film is apparently underway, at least in the early stages. According to the trades, “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” ingénue Rooney Mara and “Orphan Black” star Tatiana Maslany are testing for a key female role. What that part is? Well, everything about Edwards’ film is so far unknown and all details are being kept under wraps. Oscar-nominated “The Theory Of Everything” actress Felicity Jones is said to be on the production’s wishlist (clearly they have a type).
Recent rumors posited that Edwards’ “Star Wars” film would be a heist picture set during the events of “Return Of The Jedi” and centering on a rogue group of bounty hunters trying to steal the plans for the Death Star. Subsequent rumors tried to derail those unsubstantiated reports, but at this point who knows.
Edwards vaulted to the top of the blockbuster list after 2014’s “Godzilla” made more than $525 million worldwide. This untitled spin-off movie is currently dated for December 16th, 2016. [THR]
