Associated Press Player of the Year: Oregon Ducks Marcus Mariota

Oregon Ducks Quarterback Marcus Mariota has won multiple awards for being the best player in College Football this season including the Walter Camp Player of the Year, and the Heisman. You can now add the Associated Press Player of the Year award to the list. Mariota is the first player from the University of Oregon to win the award.

Mariota also won in landslide fashion earning forty-nine of fifty four votes and becoming the eighth quarterback in nine seasons to win the award from the Associated Press. In a healthy 2014 season the Oregon Junior has been an on the field highlight reel. From the shuffle to the dive he has made big play after big play for the Oregon Ducks including a very Heisman like pose in several opportunities and a Heisman like play against Arizona in the Pac-12 Championship Game where he rolled left, appeared to be tackled, then rolled right and threw a forty plus yard pass.

Oregon will face Florida State in the Rose Bowl, one of the College Football Playoff Semifinal games. He also faces a team on a twenty-nine game winning streak with a former Heisman Trophy winner at Quarterback in Jameis Winston. In a season that has gone near perfect for the Oregon Ducks and Mariota there is only one hurdle left to overcome, winning a National Title.

Mariota had a 2014 to remember with fifty-three touchdowns, including thirty-eight through the air. He also threw just two interceptions. He set career marks and Oregon marks for passing and rushing yards in his career and threw for over thirty-three hundred yards this season.
