What are the Florida Gators getting in Imatorbhebhe?

The Florida Gators landed its first commitment since August 15th on Tuesday when tight end Daniel Imatorbhebhe (6-4, 220, Suwanee, GA North Gwinnettt) committed to Florida over Cal.

On Wednesday Andrew Spivey had the opportunity to speak with North Gwinnett head coach Bob Sphire about the type of player Florida was getting in Imatorbhebhe and Sphire raved about Imatorbhebhe as not only a player but also as a person and a student.

Here’s a Q&A with Sphire as he describes Imatorbhebhe told Gator fans.

AS: What type of player is Imatorbhebhe and what can Gator fans expect to see from him?

Coach Sphire: “He has a lot of upside in the game because he was a basketball kid going into his sophomore year,” Coach Sphire said. “His upside as a receiver and tight end is huge. We used him in a variety of ways this year as a receiver and as a tight end. He’s got a frame that he will be to continue to grow and beef up based on what they want to do with him. He has a huge wingspan that allows him to go get the ball and he uses his basketball skills as a receiver to go get the football. He’s guy that can catch balls across the middle or go deep for a ball. We used him in a lot of different ways and he was able to play all of those positions.”

AS: Florida wants Imatorbhebhe to play the tight end/h-back role at Florida but can he gain the necessary weight to play the position?

Coach Sphire: “Last spring he got up to 232-pounds but he got back down to about 220-pounds now,” Sphire said. “He looked good at 232. I think he has the body type to play at 250 in college. Based on what they want to do with him and how they want to mold his body that he have a lot to work with because I think he can play anywhere from 230-250 pounds in college.”

AS: Is Imatorbhebhe a person that works hard at his craft and how coachable is he?

Coach Sphire: “He’s extremely coachable and he studies the game,” Sphire said. “He takes a lot of his own time to study film of tight ends or he will go do drill work in our speed training area. He would go out with the JUGS machine and go catch balls by himself. He’s very hard worker and very discipline young man.”

AS: What kind of person is Florida getting in Imatorbhebhe?

Coach Sphire: “Florida is a getting a great young man and someone who’s a good leader and that can get vocal at times too,” Sphire said. “He’s very religious young man and he wants others to succeed and he’s very team oriented. He’s more of a lead by example type of player but he’s shown that he can be vocal too.”

  1. Great Q&A here Andrew. Sounds like Daniel is really a great kid, and a great additin to Florida. I really hope McGee is able to return for a 6th year and sort of take a couple of our younger TEs under his wing and shed some insight into what it takes to be a great TE. That’s something we haven’t had at Florida in a while.
