When word broke on Wednesday that Oregon Quarterback Marcus Mariota was ticketed for speeding the internet nearly broke. ESPN was among the sources to discuss it. In a world where athletes are supposed to ‘do no wrong’, Mariota now falls into the ‘human’ categor, at least off the field. Mariota was ticketed for going eighty miles per hour in a fifty-five zone just outside of Eugene according to the Register Guard.

Oregon fans on social media who saw Mariota and his citation as non-news and joked by saying he did it with his feet rather than with an automobile. No one has yet talked to Gus Johnson from FOX to see if the ‘Maserati Mariota’ call had anything to do with the lapse of judgement on November 12th. Mariota was ‘polite and respectful’ according to the article.

The University of Oregon is aware of the citation, and it is not expected that Mariota will miss any playing time with the Oregon Ducks over the incident according to Dave Williford from U of O Communications.

The Oregon Ducks and Mariota host Colorado this weekend at Autzen Stadium  for their final home game of the season. Kickoff is set for 1:30pm Pacific Time on Pac-12 Networks.
