Oregon Ducks Seek Statement Win As Florida State Sets the Pace

The Oregon Ducks host the Stanford Cardinal this weekend but the College Football weekend started with the Florida State Seminoles, who had their grip on the top spot in the polls to start the season and have had their share of off the field problems well documented with Quarterback Jameis Winston. On Thursday night they took to the road to Louisville and made another statement this season.

More from Oregon Ducks Football

In a year where the Oregon Ducks are still  looking for a statement victory, the Seminoles are piling them up like they are going out of style. Last night, down 21-0 Winston led the Seminoles back with a four hundred passing yard performance to win 42-31. Louisville would not go away quietly and the Florida State QB was working on an injured ankle all night and in some instances looked like he should not even be playing in the game.

In the new college landscape of the College Football Playoff it is more about making a statement over your opponent. In the case for Florida State they did that on Thursday night. Now, can the Oregon Ducks do something similar against a team they have lost to twice over the last two seasons? Would a win over the Stanford Cardinal in itself be a ‘Statement’ by the Oregon Ducks? If Oregon Quarterback Marcus Mariota has a bad game did the performance for Winston put him back into the Heisman race? All good questions with a month to go in the College Football season.

Oregon and Stanford take to the field on Saturday at 4:30pm Pacific Time on FOX.
