EVERETT — The first and second rounds of the Class 3A District 1 tennis tournament were completed Monday afternoon and it’s shaping up to be a mirror image of last week’s Wesco North and South tournaments.
In singles, Glacier Peak’s Patrick Luangrath carved his way through the first and second rounds, losing just five games on his way to a spot in Tuesday’s championship at Skagit Valley College. His opponent in the finals, Everett’s Ulises Aceves, lost just one set over his two matches.
Both clinched spots in next spring’s Class 3A state tournament.
Luangrath and Aceves face off in a matchup of 3A league champions. Last weke, Langrath won the South regional and Aceves the North regional.
In the doubles tournament, Glacier Peak’s Tucker Davis and Ethan Jones — and their finals opponents, Shorewood’s Cameron McDowell and Jack Bong — both moved swiftly though the prelimanary rounds and clinched state berths.
The final is a rematch of the 3A South regional championship, with the Glacier Peak duo of Davis and Jones trying to even the score against McDowell and Bong.
The final round starts at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon.
