Florida Gators Recruiting: October 16th mailbag

The Florida Gators had a big weekend for recruiting last weekend when many of Florida’s top targets visited for the LSU game.

In this week’s mailbag our Gator Country members had a ton of questions about how the weekend went and more about the Class of 2015.

Without further a due here’s this week’s recruiting mailbag:

Surfing8or: How is the recruiting going for both the offensive Line and defensive lines? Are we getting good inside people to go along with the defensive ends?

AS: Things are doing well right now on both ends as a number of top targets have Florida in the lead. On the OL Jalen Merrick and Martez Ivey both had great visits last weekend. On the DL at defensive end, Byron Cowart and CeCe Jefferson continue to visit Florida and at defensive tackle Kendrick Norton is the top defensive tackle on the board.

Gator_nica: I recently read the #1 TE Devonaire Clarington from South Florida say ¨Play Treon¨. What kind of pull does Treon Harris have with South Fla recruits?

AS: Kids in South Florida love Treon and him having success at Florida will help the Florida Gators in the area. Playmakers will want to play with him.

MrB-Gator: AS….how important is this recruiting class for Will Muschamp and the program? If he stays as our head coach do you think  this class could put him over the top for the future.

AS: It’s very important for him because he has to add playmakers on the offensive side of the ball for the spread offense. I think this class will help him a ton if he stays at Florida next year because of the potential top notch guys in the class.

AG111: Any Ryan green buzz?

AS: Not that I’ve heard. What are you hearing?

Swampie: Andrew, OK we have a recruit waiting till signing day to announce on ESPN, another DE waiting for an all-star game, not sure if Ivey in Apopka is waiting for something or not. Question, how many have announced when they will announce that you know of, would think one DE announcing early would help us in recruiting, the other might be waiting to see what happens to Fowler if he goes pro, don’t know why you wait till signing day unless ESPN has made a offer that the recruit thinks will be cool or something. What do you know and what are your thoughts Mr Spivey, thanks

Also, if you’ll do an also sir, how many of our recruits, commitments and guys who we have a strong shot at will be early enrollees…

AS: As far as I know: Martez Ivey is waiting until after the season, Byron Cowart at the Under Armour game, CeCe Jefferson hasn’t announced a date yet. Roquan Smith is waiting until NSD.

As far as waiting on Dante Fowler, I don’t think he will play much factor, as these guys love him and wouldn’t mind playing with him if he stayed.

As far as EE’s go: Tevon Coney is a EE, Sheririon Jones is trying right now but that’s honestly all that know for sure at this time.

FrankGator627: Who will be our RBs?

AS: The million dollar question right because of the coaching situation right now. I like Florida’s chances with Dexter Williams still though.

Gotime51: How long are some of these guys willing to wait to find out about our future? Seems like some want to be here but need to be assured of the next few years. At what point do the wandering eyes become to much to overcome?

AS: After the season Florida will have a decision made and they know that, so it won’t be long after the Florida State game that they know unless Florida makes it to Atlanta and then they will know that he’s going to be back.

Ol2ange: Has this seasons performance changed Muschamp’s big board numbers at all? Ie. he sees our WRs are struggling more than expected and therefore ups the number of WR recruits we will take in 2015. If so, which positions are opened up?

AS: No, I don’t think so as they always wanted four receivers in the class. I guess the tight end position has changed some because they now want three this year.

Ol2ange: Who is our backup to Martez Ivey (Tackle position)? Most of our OL commits seem to play G or Center (Tyler Jordan). Are we still going after Isiah Prince?

AS: Yes Isaiah Prince is suppose to take an official visitor after the season. Matthew Burrell is also another guy that Florida is after. Right now Florida is keeping an eye on a few guys at the offensive tackle position warm as they continue to battle for Ivey.

Genesis: Visitors for this weeks game?

AS: Working on that today actually.

74gator: What RB’s have officials scheduled for Florida? Damien Harris?

AS: Damien Harris has not schedule one at this point but he has said he would. Right now nobody has one scheduled but Ray-Ray McCloud, Dexter Williams, Nyheim Hines, Bryce Love and maybe Jordan Cronkrite are scheduled to take one to Florida.

67viking: IF Florida  goes 7-5(8-5) with Idaho win, AND Will Muschamp is retained.
Do you think we have a top 5 class? Lots of talent sitting on the fence wanting on board.

AS: Yes I do because they will know that he will be back for the 2015 season.

Gatorjb11: Name 1 or 2 explosive playmakers on the offensive side of the ball that Florida  potentially has a decent shot of landing. What role do you see them playing in Roper’s offense?

AS: Ryan Davis who can play slot and wildcat quarterback and Javarius Davis who is a running back/receiver. Both of those guys are electric with the ball in their hands.

FrankGator627: Any word on Lamar Jackson’s thoughts on switching to UF from Louisville?

AS: He has went quiet but I’m told that he has told people close to him that he will visit Florida this fall but he hasn’t scheduled anything yet.

Jyork: Did Ray Ray make it in for game?

AS: He did not.
