As NBC is prepping its live staging of Peter Pan, the network has bought another project inspired by the J. M. Barrie classic. Single-camera comedy Wendy And Peter, which has received a script commitment plus penalty from NBC, hails from writer-actress Marisa Coughlan, Rashida Jones & Will McCormack‘s Le Train Train and Warner Bros. TV.
Loosely inspired by Peter Pan and Coughlan’s own dating experiences, Wendy and Peter is a workplace romantic comedy told from the point of view of Wendy, a woman who wants to find love with a real man, but finds herself falling for Peter, who refuses to fully embrace adulthood. Coughlan will write the script and will executive produce alongside Jones and McCormack, with Le Train Train’s Jeff Grosvenor co-executive producing. “Marisa is loaded with talent and we are lucky to be working with her,” McCormack said. Added Jones, “Her show, which uses the world of Peter Pan as its backdrop, combines pathos, comedy and heart, creating the perfect love story.”
Relationship comedies are a major part of Le Train Train’s brand –the company’s first series, developed in Jones and McCormack’s first season at WBTV, is NBC’s new fall romantic comedy From A to Z. This season, the UTA-repped company also has sold dramedy Mix to ABC.
