Here's an all-new level of geekery: Now you can purchase O'Reilly and Microsoft Press Books from the Apple iBookstore. Download the iBooks app to your iPad, iPod touch or iPhone, and you've got a massive searchable reference pool on the go.
"Ebooks are already a big part of our publishing business, and we know many of those ebooks are read on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Having those ebooks available for sale in the iBookstore makes it even easier to find, buy, and read nearly 800 O'Reilly and Microsoft Press titles on these iOS devices," said Andrew Savikas, VP, Digital Initiatives, O'Reilly Media.
The O'Reilly pool includes Jeff Potter's Cooking for Geeks, David Pogue's iPhone: The Missing Manual, J.D. Biersdorfer's iPad: The Missing Manual, and Mark Pilgrim's HTML5: Up and Running. As for the Microsoft Press titles, you might be interested in Steve McConnell's Code Complete, Second Edition, Ed Bott's Microsoft Office 2010 Inside Out, and William R. Stanek's Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Administrator's Pocket Consultant.
"As always, there's no DRM on ebooks sold by O'Reilly, so it's easy to read the open-standard ePub files purchased from the iBookstore on nearly any device with ePub support," added Savikas.
For now, availability is limited to the US and Canada iBookstore. However, Savikas says the team hopes to make a full catalog of titles from O'Reilly and Microsoft Press, as well as the rest of their digital distribution clients, available in every participating territory.
