U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy leads incumbent U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu in the latest poll performed by Public Policy Polling looking at the potential outcome of a December runoff.

Landrieu, a Democrat, leads significantly in the November election over Republicans Cassidy and retired Air Force Col. Rob Maness of Madisonville and other minority candidates. The poll shows 42 percent of respondents favoring Landrieu in November, compared to 34 percent for Cassidy, 12 percent for Maness, 2 percent favoring other candidates and 10 percent still undecided.

In the question of who people would vote for between Landrieu and Cassidy in a December runoff, Cassidy leads 48 percent to Landrieu's 45.

The poll also showed that Republican Sen. David Vitter leads in the race for governor that is set to take place in 2015.

The poll put Vitter up against Democratic State Rep. John Bel Edwards, who currently serves as minority leader in the House of Representatives, Republican candidate and current Lieutenant Gov. Jay Dardenne and potential Democratic candidate and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

Vitter's largest margin of victory in the hypothetical elections posed by Public Policy Polling was seven percent over Edwards.

The poll also featured several other questions. One asked whether respondents would prefer current Gov. Bobby Jindal or former Gov. Edwin Edwards. Forty-seven percent of respondents would prefer Edwards as governor, as opposed to 43 percent who chose Jindal.

Jindal's bad ratings are also poised to carry over into the 2016 presidential elections if he chooses to run.

Sixty-eight percent of respondents said Jindal should not run in 2016 and 42 percent said it would make them less likely to support the Republican ticket if he were chosen as the vice-presidential candidate.

The results of the poll, which was conducted between Sept. 25-28 and featured 1,141 likely voters, can be found here.
