Health Notes: Head lice treatment center has new location in Jacksonville

Fresh Heads Head Lice Treatment Center has opened at a new, larger location at 13241 Bartram Park Boulevard, Suite 1801, in Jacksonville.

Over the last two years, Fresh Heads Lice Removal has successfully checked and treated more than 7,000 people for head lice.

Mayo, UNF host breast cancer event

Mayo Clinic and the University of North Florida are observing National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by hosting the tenth annual "Upbeat Pink: A Musical Tribute to Breast Cancer Survivorship" concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 in Lazzara Performance Hall, UNF Fine Arts Building. The concert is free and open to the public.

The theme for this year's program, "Dancing with the Survivors," showcases a variety of dance music performed by the UNF Wind Symphony and features special guest artist Bill Prince. Guest speakers will include Laura Vallow, a radiation oncologist at Mayo Clinic, and Dianne Wagner, a breast cancer survivor.

Making Strides has 2 events this month

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, a noncompetitive 5K walk that brings together cancer survivors and others to raise funds to end breast cancer, will have two events this month in Northeast Florida.

The first will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Bestbet Orange Park, 455 Park Ave. Orange Park. There will be at second at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Jacksonville Landing, 2 Independent Dr.

Since 1993, 10 million walkers have collected more than $594 million to fund breast cancer research and support and educational programs by the American Cancer Society.

Pink Ribbon tourney set for Oct. 16

The 8th Annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will begin at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 at The Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, 200 Ponte Vedra Blvd. This is the Jacksonville area's only all-women charity golf tournament, created in part by breast cancer survivors, to provide direct financial support for breast cancer research and related services locally.

The money raised supports Baptist Medical Center-Beaches and the Mayo Clinic.

Tournament registration is $150 per person. Tickets for the Tee-Off Cocktail Party, being held 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, are $75 per person.
