Doctor Who may be at its scariest this weekend when the Time Lord takes on some giant killer spiders.

While last week Peter Capaldi's Doctor took on the role of a school caretaker, this Saturday will see him taking Clara on a suicide mission to the Moon, as you do.

Though for a change the hero and his companion faces a very earthly threat with a colony of giant killer spiders (they've moved from the living rooms of this planet) determined to stop him and Clara leaving the moon.

Travelling in space and time might be old hat to the, er time traveller but this time he's stuck without his TARDIS on the Moon, with seemingly no way to escape from its creepy monstrous eight-legged inhabitants.

What would you do if you were attacked by giant spiders?

And their lunar crash-landing isn’t the only shock with the duo discovering a mine base full of corpses, scary spider-like beings ready for a fight and an extra unexpected twist for the companion... creepy.

Spooks star Hermione Norris stars in the episode - which was filmed in Lanzarote - plays space shuttle captain Lundvik and she's not to be messed with.

"There are lots of natural disasters happening on earth, everything has gone wrong and we’ve been sent up to discover whatever trouble there is on the moon - if it’s aliens I’ve been sent to blow them up," she explains.

"The Doctor and Clara arrive and they all join forces to help to try and save the earth."

* Doctor Who: Kill the Moon airs on BBC One, Saturday at 8.30pm
