Bradlees was owned by Stop & Shop . Boston Garden was on the other side of the expressway steel on Causeway street that housed the S &S bakery. They were neighbors.The Celtics were just being good neighbors.When did gym shorts stop being shorts anyway , how did that happen?

It was basically due to Michael Jordan in the late 80s/early 90s. He complained that the shorts were too short and from that point they kept getting longer and longer. Men's baggy shorts today look like something out of a circus clown's wardrobe.

Gym shorts probably stopped being called shorts
about the same time the PC crowd decided the term "junior high" was insensitive to kids and convinced all the school districts in the country to replace it with "middle school"
Junior High vs Middle Schools
I don't know what personal computers have to do with it, but junior high is grades 7-9. Middle school is 6-8.
Sigh.

Johnny Most
I still miss hearing the Green Gospel as delivered by the Celtic's #1 fan. It was a wonderfully surreal experience to have the TV on with the sound turned down and listen to Johnny describe a Wilt Chamberlain foul as though it were an axe murder.

..on crazy radio at Tufts with a Johnny record on one turntable, Howard Cosell on another and Bukowski on the third, just for the texture of gravelly voiced excitable geezers.
Johnny Most was a legend for sure..
Johnny Most was a legend for sure, but if you tune into Celtics games today you get to hear the legendary Mike Gorman/Tommy Heinsohn play by play. I know its almost sacrilege to say, but I enjoy hearing Tommy more. Especially nowadays, in the era of PC "both teams played hard" sports broadcasters. Mike knows his stuff and Tommy is the living embodiment of Celtic pride.
Absolutely!
Mike & Tommy are always good. Gorman is a superb play-by-play man, a local - from Dorchester - and his interplay with Heinsohn is always amusing. They're one of the rare broadcast teams I'll tune in just to enjoy them even if they game might be a stinker.

For some reason this made me sad...
I don't know if it was the corny music, hearing Johnny Most's voice, seeing young Havlicek, or the memories of going to Bradless to see Santa or buy back to school clothes or what, but it just feels like we keep losing little pieces of Boston history (even though Bradlees grew to several states) every year. Or maybe it just makes me feel old.
