Is Royce Freeman Poised for a One-Thousand Yard Season for Oregon Ducks?

facebooktwitterreddit

Oregon Running Back Royce Freeman is starting to make a name for himself. Through three games this season the Freshman has five touchdowns, good enough for second on the team behind Quarterback Marcus Mariota. He gets cheers everytime he walks onto the field because fans know when he gets the ball something special is going to happen.

From the start of the season and his first handoff from Mariota(which was a running play for nine yards and a first down), Freeman has always pushed ahead. One play in particular last weekend agaist Wyoming stands out as Mariota and Freeman teamed up for an almost shuffle pass type play that led to and Oregon Ducks first down. He seems to be able to do it all. Catch the ball out of the backfield, take the handoff, and improvise with a cool head to get the job done.

More from Oregon Ducks Football

As part of the Oregon Ducks three headed monster attack on the ground, Royce Freeman stands out as an early favorite to hit the one-thousand yard mark this season. His north-south ability makes him a bruising style of running back for Oregon, which they have not had in a few years. He can also run in space. As weapons on offense go, the Oregon Ducks a few times this season have used Thomas Tyner and Freeman in the backfield and Running Back Byron Marshall as a slot receiver. I would expect this look to continue throughout the Pac-12 season – with perhaps another wrinkle or two.

When you have the talent, you have to use it and that is exactly what the Oregon Ducks are doing. On the season so far Freeman has rushed one-hundred eight six yards and five touchdowns to go along with three receptions for thirty-three yards.

AutzenZoo will have live coverage of the game this weekend as Oregon travels north to Pullman. Coverage will begin here on AutzenZoo at 6:30pm Pacific Time. The Oregon Ducks and Washington State Cougars face off on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm Pacific Time on ESPN.
