Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety continues to search for the suspect.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Police are looking for a man who they say broke into a Kalamazoo home, assaulted a woman and set the house on fire Monday night.

Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Prospect Place at about 10:15 p.m. on the report of a house fire. The fire was in the upstairs bedroom and was quickly extinguished, according to a news release.

The victim was seriously injured in the assault and taken to the hospital where she is in critical condition.

Police are still searching for the suspect, who they say is a 20-year-old man with ties to Kalamazoo and Paw Paw.
