Historic English golf club Wentworth has been sold to a Chinese-owned company for a figure of £135m.
The Surrey venue has been home to the BMW PGA Championship, the biggest event on the European Tour, since 1984 and previously hosted the HSBC World Match Play Championship from 1964 until 2007.
Reignwood Investments have parted with a nine-figure sum to acquire the site, which has three 18-hole courses, and previous owner Richard Caring has promised that the club is "in great hands for the next chapter in its amazing story".
Chanchai Ruayrungruang, founder of the Chinese-owned Reignwood Group, added: "Wentworth is a key strategic acquisition for our rapidly growing luxury lifestyle division, whose unique culture we are dedicated to preserving."
Wentworth hosted the Ryder Cup in 1953 and is also the location of the European Tour headquarters.
