Mariota Helping Oregon Leap Wyoming, Oregon Ducks Lead at HALF

The Oregon Ducks started the game against Wyoming looking to make an early statement. However, it did not go their way in the beginning as Starting Offensive Lineman Jake Fisher went down with what appeared to be a left leg injury and was later seen departing on a cart. Not a good sign for a team who is going though offensive lineman like crazy right now. Wyoming then had a goal line stand on fourth down keeping Oregon out of the endzone and maintaining possession for their offense on their own two yard line.

On the next drive the Wyoming Offense used a mix of passing and rushing to get down the field and score on Oregon to take a 7-0 lead. The Cowboys used Running Backs Sean Wick(30 yards) and D.J. May(28 yards) and Receiver Jalen Claiborne(15 yards) to their advantage. Starting Corner Chris Seisay was beat for the score on a pass from Colby Kirkegaard to Tanner Gentry to take a 7-0 lead.

Entering the second quarter the Oregon Ducks were knocking on the door having rushed and passed for forty-six yards as Marcus Mariota took the ball into the endzone to tie the game. On the next Oregon possession Running Back Byron Marshall did a lot of work and it paid off with a handoff from Mariota at the 21 yard line. Marshall scampered and took it into the endzone. Oregon missed the extra point leading 13-7.

Wyoming Quarterback Colby Kirkgaard has shown poise passing the ball in the first half. He has been able to get the ball to his Wide Receivers, until the 8:24 mark when he threw an interception to Oregon’s Erick Dargan. The Oregon Ducks Offense quickly went to work and following a roughing the passer penalty it was first and goal at the nine.  Mariota after a ten yard penalty ran and leaped into the endzone past the pylon for the score giving Oregon a 20-7 lead with 6:43 left in the first half. With 3:0 left Erick Dargan picked off his second ball of the game.

The Cowboys showed they can play at their own pace in a hostile environment. Oregon had the momentum and the ball to start the second half.
