Oregon Ducks vs Wyoming: Three Things I’ll Be Watching

The coffee is not strong enough, so that needs to be fixed. Luckily the coffee at Autzen Stadium is, at least in the press box. It is an early eleven am start for the Oregon Ducks this morning as they host the 2-0 Wyoming Cowboys at Autzen Stadium. Coming off of last weekend’s thriller against Michigan State here is what I’ll be watching for this morning.

Will Oregon Ducks ‘Get’ Caught and Have a Letdown Following a Big Game?

I have said it before numerous times on this blog, you have to play the game on the field. Any given Saturday you have to play your best. Look at Ohio State from last weekend. The Oregon Ducks enter a fairly easy game where they can pretty much put the car in ‘coast’ and come out with a victory, but how much will the Oregon Ducks Offense step on the gas? Wyoming is better competition and employs a defense that Oregon has not seen this season, but the talent for the Ducks lies on both sides of the ball. Everything points to Oregon, but stranger things have happened in college football.

How Long Will Quarterback Marcus Mariota Play vs Wyoming? Will We See a Third String QB in the Game?

Last weekend the starters for the Oregon Ducks and Michigan State used a lot of stamina playing starters for the full game. This week the Oregon Ducks may be able to tap the brakes a bit (sorry for all the car references) and allow second and third string guys get some experience. I can see Mariota playing a half, depending on the score. We could also have the opportunity to see Oregon’s future with a third string quarterback making an appearance in the fourth quarter.

Expect Freshman Running Back Royce Freeman to Get His First Career Start Coming off two strong performances and scoring four touchdowns, two in each game against South Dakota and Michigan State Freshman Running Back Royce Freeman is making a statement this season. The soft spoken five star recruit has earned his stripes and could get the start this week with Thomas Tyner nursing a minor shoulder injury. It is not expected to cause him to miss anytime, but Oregon could go with a two headed Running Back attack this week and give Tyner time to rest.

Oregon and Wyoming kickoff just after 11am Pacific Time on Pac-12 Networks. If you are headed to Autzen for the game, get there early. There will be a pregame ceremony honoring former Coach Mike Bellotti before kickoff on his College Hall of Fame Induction.
