Sen. Warner Stands Up for Arlington, 'Because We Got Soul'

Politician was reacting to commentary that county is 'soulless,' by New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

The kerfuffle about Arlington not having any soul continued Friday, when Sen. Mark Warner stood up for the county.

He did so by meeting with the instigator, New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who dubbed the county “soulless” in her new book, after living in the D.C. suburb a short time with her husband.

Warner, all in good fun, met with Gillibrand Friday, gifting her with a blue T-shirt that says “Arlington: We Got Soul.”

He tweeted out a photo of the meeting and said on Twitter: “Had to stand up for @ArlingtonVA bc #wegotsoul. All is forgiven @SenGillibrand! Thanks for being a class act.”

Warner is running for re-election in Virginia and polls this week had him ahead of GOP competitor Ed Gillespie.
