Sometimes the non-conference schedule does not go your way. For some reason coaches felt that the Oregon Ducks performance on Saturday against South Dakota was not impressive enough as Oregon, although they won, fell from third to fourth in the Amway Coaches Poll. The Oklahoma Sooners who played Louisiana Tech, and also won 48-16 gave up more points than the Oregon Ducks and scored less, but none the less are ahead of the Oregon Ducks in this week’s poll at number three.

Coaches were impressed by Michigan State and their thumping of Jacksonville State as the Spartans moved from number eight to number six making the meeting this week against Oregon a six vs four matchup. It is the first time since 1966 that the Michigan State Spartans are involved in a top ten matchup at this point of the season. There are plenty of storylines to follow leading up to the Saturday game, but the biggest is the health of Spartans QB Connor Cook. He took a nasty hit during the Jacksonville State game and limped off the field, but was later seen walking without a limp. Word is he is fine, but as we all know from following Oregon Ducks, time will tell if that is the case.

If for some reason he is not able to play in the game this week it would be a big blow for the Michigan State Offense, but that is not what Oregon has to worry about. The Defense is strong and even though they are on the road, it will be an interesting to see who comes out on top in the chess match.

The number one team remained the same with Florida State also taking fifty-seven first place votes. Oregon received four first place votes in the coaches poll. The Associated Press Poll is expected to be released around 10am Pacific time Monday.

Oregon and Michigan State take the field at Autzen Stadium on Saturday at 3:30pm Pacific Time. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
