Mullen “Florida is a DB school.”

Monday, September 1 was the first day college coaches could message 2016 prospects through social media and the Florida Gators took full advantage of that.

One of the first prospects to hear from Florida was 2016 cornerback Trayvon Mullen (6-2, 156, Coconut Creek, FL High) who heard from Florida and then called the Gators and received good news from cornerbacks coach Travaris Robinson.

“Coach T-Rob offered me a scholarship today from Florida and after he offered me, he handed the phone to Coach [Will] Muschamp,” Mullen said. “Coach T-Rob said he wanted me to be a Gator and that he loved my film and what I was doing on the field. He said that he loved how I come across the whole field to make tackles and how I play physical. He said that I fit his style.”

Will Muschamp is usually the coach to hand out offers but he was the second coach to give Mullen a quick but big message.

“Coach Muschamp, he basically told me the same thing that Coach T-Rob did but he said that he was glad to talk to me,” Mullen said. “He said that he had watched my film plenty of times and that he loved it. Coach Muschamp said that he wanted me to stay in touch with him because he likes me a lot and wants me to play for him.”

The Florida Gators have emerged as one of the top schools in the country for producing defensive backs and that’s something that is drawing Mullen to Florida.

“I have interest, a lot interest in Florida,” Mullen said. “I know they produce a lot of DB’s like Marcus Roberson who plays for the [St. Louis] Rams and [Vernon] Hargreaves should be going to the league. I know they are a DB school so they will be a school that I look hard at.”

Now that Florida has offered Mullen the 2016 cornerback plans to visit Gainesville to see what the Gators are all about.

“I should be going to the game this Saturday and if not this Saturday then next Saturday for sure,” Mullen said. “I want to see everything on campus and see my side of the ball, the defense. I want to see how the defensive scheme is and see if I fit into the scheme or not.”

INSIDERS TAKE:  Mullen is one of the best defensive backs in the country and he has good ball skills. Clemson is a school that Mullen likes but T-Rob is also someone that Mullen likes a lot.

  1. At 6’2″ and only 156 pounds, he sounds like a string bean, so how physical can he really be at that size? I assume he must have a frame that might indicate that he will fill out eventually. He must possess some awesome ball skills.
