Florida Gators: Friday Night Frenzy Recap

It’s that time of the year again where the Friday Night Lights are bright and prospects all across the country are trying to shine on the field to impress college coaches and win a state championship ring before heading to college.

Like the past years Gator Country is going to do a preview every Thursday for all of the Florida Gators commits and on Monday we will do a full recap including stats and notes from the past weeks games.

This year we are going to also highlight the key players to watch in the game that aren’t Florida Gators commits but rather targets or just big names in the game.

 

High School Recap

 

Linebacker Jerome Baker (6-1, 206, Cleveland, OH Benedictine)

Result: Benedictine defeated Normandy 62-13 in a lopsided victor on Thursday.

Stats: Baker had six carries for 94 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the win.

Notes: Baker played both running back and linebacker in the big win last week.

 

 

Offensive Lineman George Brown (6-6, 264, Cincinnati, OH Winton Woods)

Result: Winton Woods defeated Princeton High 42-13 in the season opener.

Stats: N/A

Notes: Brown played both offensive tackle and defensive end in the win on Friday.

 

 

Receiver Derrick Dillon (5-11, 175, Franklinton, LA Pine)

Result: Pine doesn’t start its season until this Friday as they have a bye in the first week of the season.

Stats: N/A

Notes: Dillon was able to visit Florida because of the bye week.

 

  

Offensive lineman Michael Horton 6-4, 320, Atlanta, GA Lakeside)

Result: Lakeside lost to Osborne 20-7

Stats: N/A

Notes: Lakeside is now 1-1 on the season after this Friday’s lost.

 

 

Defensive end Andrew Ivie (6-3, 285, Dade City, FL Pasco)

Result: Pasco lost to Sunlake 17-13 in the season opener.

Stats: Ivie had five tackles a two hurries in the loss on Friday night.

Notes: Ivie visited Florida on Saturday night.

 

 

 

Tight end Kalif Jackson (6-4, 202, Neptune Beach, FL Fletcher)

Result: Fletcher defeated Stanton 54-7 in the regular season opener.

Stats: Jackson didn’t have any stats in the game due to injury.

Notes: Jackson suffered a right shoulder injury in the opening series of the game. Jackson says he will be fine.

 

 

Quarterback Sheriron Jones (6-2, 189, Moreno Valley, CA Rancho Verde)

Result: Rancho Verde defeated Citrus Hill 37-34 on Friday night.

Stats: Jones went 15-27 for 246 yards and five touchdown passes. Jones also had 12 carries for 142 yards.

Notes: Jones led Rancho Verde down the field to a game winning field goal with 3 seconds left in the game.

 

 

Offensive lineman Tyler Jordan (6-5, 270, Jacksonville, FL Bishop Kenny)

Result: Bishop Kenny defeated Bartram Trail 23-20

Stats: Jordan had two tackles while playing defense late in the game.

Notes:  Bishop Kenny had to rally to get the first win of the season to start 1-0 this year.

  

Tight End Camrin Knight (6-4, 220, Tallahassee, FL Lincoln)

Result: Lincoln defeated Pensacola 31-27 to start the season 1-0.

Stats: Knight had one catch for 18 yards in the win.

Notes: Knight visited Florida on Saturday after a big win on Friday night.

 

Offensive Lineman Brandon Sandifer (6-3, 332, Warner Robins, GA Northside)

Result: Northside had a bye this week but will resume play on Friday night.

Stats: N/A

Notes: With the bye week Sandifer was able to make the trip down to Florida.

 

  

Linebacker Adonis Thomas (6-3, 219, Lawrenceville, GA Central Gwinnett)

Result: Central Gwinnett lost to Collins Hill 20-9 to open the season.

Stats: Thomas and the Central Gwinnett defense held Collins Hill to 87 yards rushing.

Notes: Collins Hill scored 20 unanswered points and shut out Central Gwinnett in the second half of the game.

 Other big games

Countryside defeated Lakewood 25-20 but Florida receiver target Ryan Davis had 307 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in the loss.
