Mick McCarthy confirms Leicester City's David McGoldrick bid

Mick McCArthy admits that he may be unable to keep hold of striker David McGoldrick in the wake of a bid from Leicester City.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Leicester City have made a bid for striker David McGoldrick.

The 26-year-old, who is said to be the subject of an £8m offer, was left out of the Tractor Boys squad for today's 1-1 draw against Derby County with a reported leg injury.

Speaking after the game, McCarthy admitted that he may be unable to prevent the striker making the move to the Premier League before the transfer window closes on Monday night.

"He did actually have a dead leg, whether anyone believes me or not," the Ipswich boss is quoted as saying by the East Anglia Daily Times. "Had it been the cup final at Wembley on May the whatever I think he'd have probably got through that one.

"Yes [Leicester] have bid, but I need everybody of a hundred per cent – physically and mentally. If one does go, and that won't be down to me, that will be down to what Leicester are bidding and what [owner] Marcus [Evans] decides is the right amount. And let me tell you, Marcus doesn't want it to happen. Sometimes it's unstoppable though.

"Well, it's not unstoppable because if he wanted to stop it he could, that's for sure. But I'm always of a mind that you need players that are 100 per cent with you all the time. I have to be honest, I think if David had played today and got injured and there was no chance of it not happening."

McGoldrick has one goal to his name so far this season.
