For the Oregon Women’s Volleyball team the season is off to a good start. The schedule the Oregon Ducks face in 2014 could be considered daunting by some with three Big Ten teams on the slate in the early part of the season. The first test against the Ohio State Buckeyes was passed with flying colors on Friday night at Matthew Knight Arena.

More from Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks were able to start fast and finish strong in every set, setting the tone for what looks to be a very promising season against an Ohio State team that seemed to struggle to keep up. A 6-0 lead in the first, 7-0 lead in the second and 7-3 lead in the third set the tone as Liz Brenner and the home team rolled to a win. Brenner led the team with fifteen digs on the night with three players in total hitting the double digit mark. With any young team, chemistry is a question and with Oregon things seem to be gelling quite well. The Oregon Ducks hit at a match high .464 in the third and final set and held Ohio State under 1 with a more than solid defensive effort throughout the match.

Oregon will play a doubleheader on Saturday hosting Central Arkansas and Illinois State before heading to Hawaii next weekend to take on the Rainbow Warriors. The Oregon Ducks return home the following week to take on two Big Ten teams on consecutive nights meeting Michigan and Michigan State in the non-conference slate in 2014.
