Global citizens compete to address UN climate summit

Five hundred global citizens frustrated at the stalemate over climate policy will learn today if they have won the chance to vent their anger at world leaders. They have all joined a contest on social media and the winners will be invited to next month's UN climate summit in New York.

This is the UN's first-ever open competition for members of the public to talk to heads of state. But, as the BBC's environment correspondent Roger Harrabin reports, for the starring role in the opening plenary, men need not apply.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 29 August.
