A 4-year-old child was killed in Ajman when he was crushed between the door at his home on Tuesday evening.

The Gulf child suffered a fractured skull when the electrically operated door closed on him.

Brigadier Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Acting Commander in Chief, Ajman Police, urged parents to keep a strict vigil of children and not to leave them unattended.

He spoke of the importance of keeping the windows and corridors leading to the balconies closed.

Major Ibrahim Al Shehhi, Director, CID, said the operations room received information at about 9.50pm on Tuesday. Rescue team rushed to the villa, but the child was already dead, he added.

Initial investigations reveal that the electrically operated door has opener sensors which failed to detect the child because he was very small.

The neighbour said, “I saw the child stuck in the house’s door. I ran towards the door along with my 12-year-old brother. But when we opened the door, the child was motionless. Then we called the police.”

The child’s mother said: “I was the last one who left the house and I didn’t realise that he would follow me before the door closed on him.”

Investigations continue.
