Showtime has given 12-episode third-season orders to both of its sophomore dramas, Ray Donovan and Masters Of Sex, to begin production in early 2015. After getting strong launch pads in Season 1 with the final season of Dexter (Ray Donovan) and Season 3 of Homeland (Masters Of Sex), the two series were paired together for their second seasons. “Both Ray Donovan and Masters Of Sex are quintessentially Showtime: bold, provocative, premium television with production values at the top of the food chain,” said Showtime president David Nevins.
Masters Of Sex, about human sexuality pioneers, William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), received five Emmy nominations, including nods for actors Lizzy Caplan, Beau Bridges and Allison Janney, who won the best supporting actress in a drama series statuette this past Saturday. Ray Donovan‘s Jon Voight is also a nominee. Masters Of Sex, developed/executive produced by Michelle Ashford and produced by Sony TV, averages nearly four million viewers across platforms per week, hitting a season high with Episode 5, up 18% versus the season two premiere. Ray Donovan, created and executive produced by Ann Biderman, averages five million weekly viewers across platforms, with its fifth episode up 16% versus its season two premiere. Also executive producing Ray Donovan, starring Liev Schreiber as a LA fixer, are Mark Gordon, Bryan Zuriff and David Hollander; Masters Of Sex‘s exec produing team also includes Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, Judith Verno and Amy Lippman.
