Dearborn Flood of 2014: Special Trash Pickup, Service Interruptions

City offers free pickup for flood-damaged household goods through Aug. 22. The public works yard will be open the next ttwo Saturdays.

Residents whose basements were flooded after Dearborn received an unprecedented amount of rainfall on Monday can place damaged items at the curb for pickup without a fee.

Also, both the treasurer’s and city clerk’s offices are temporarily closed because of the flooding. Residents are advised to call ahead on Thursday before making a trip to City Hall. The treasurer’s office number is 943-2045, and the city clerk’s number is 943-2032.

Items damaged in the flood may be placed on the curb at any time now through Aug. 22, even if it is not the neighborhood’s trash day.

Carpet should be cut up and bundled in manageable pieces when set at the curb. Trash and all loose debris should be bagged in heavy-duty trash bags.

Extra trash trucks from Republic Services will be dispatched each regular trash day through Friday, Aug. 22.

The Dearborn Public Works yard, 2915 Greenfield, will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16 (a regularly scheduled day) and again on Saturday, Aug. 23 for Dearborn residents to drop off flood-damaged items. Residents must be able to lift and carry their own items at the DPW Yard.

Residents wanting information about cleaning up flooded basements and the process and requirements for filing a claim regarding flood damage should visit the city’s website at www.cityofdearborn.org.
